I’ve been writing recipes for about seven years now (!!) and there are some periods where I find my inspiration to create something new seems to dry up a bit. My creative energy feels lacking and none of my ideas are motivating enough to get me into the kitchen. It’s easy in those waning moments to get a little down on myself, especially when all of my social channels (TikTok, Substack, Instagram, etc) are continually pinging with other writers creating new recipes—an ever-present reminder of my stuck-ness.
Recently, during one of these slumps, I found myself scrolling through the recipes I’ve created over the years, both here in this newsletter and on my blog and re-discovered some long forgotten gems. Between my two little publications, I’ve written 269 recipes over the years (I counted!), each with their own special story or memory or technique representative of a season of my life and I love them all like little children.
Here are a few of my favorite feels like spring recipes from the archives over the years.
